JOB OBJECTIVE:

The HVAC Systems Engineer will deliver extensive engineering solutions focused on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, encompassing all stages of the construction lifecycle, from initial design to system commissioning. This role will report to a Senior Project Manager within the Mechanical Engineering Division and will be an integral part of the Engineering team at Energy 1, where we strive to Demand Better. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The HVAC Systems Engineer will exhibit strong collaborative skills with all design team members, mentor junior engineers, and oversee the mechanical designs under their guidance. They will maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams. Responsibilities include managing mechanical personnel, their project timelines, and meeting project managers' expectations. The ideal candidate will be proactive, driven, and capable of working autonomously while also collaborating with others to set priorities, adhere to deadlines, and adapt to evolving project demands.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a Project Manager to create and refine detailed mechanical engineering and construction installation documents, providing engineering support throughout the construction phase across various project types, including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and healthcare sectors.
  • Design and draft mechanical and plumbing systems, including but not limited to forced air and hydronic systems, sanitary drainage, domestic water, and fuel gas piping systems.
  • Conduct mechanical system design analysis, which includes heating/cooling load calculations, energy modeling, life-cycle cost analysis, and compliance verification with energy codes.
  • Generate comprehensive, code-compliant project contract documents, including drawings and specifications for permitting, bidding, and construction purposes.
  • Oversee construction administration tasks such as field inspections, report generation, submittal reviews, responding to RFIs, project closeouts, as-built documentation, and issuing design change directives.
  • Engage closely with owners, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.
  • Provide training to team members and review the work of those under your supervision.
  • Draft and edit project specifications in accordance with CSI divisions 22 and 23.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to collect specific information necessary for timely and complete designs.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical and plumbing design.
  • A valid professional engineering license is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit (preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Experience in understanding and applying relevant building codes and industry standards (such as International Building Codes, IAPMO codes, ASHRAE standards, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Regularly required to communicate with others, both in person and via telephone; sit and stand; manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally more than 10 pounds.
  • Site visits may be necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Typically operates in an office environment, with potential travel to various project sites as needed.
  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend work.
