Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Emissions Test Technician is responsible for executing and overseeing technical tasks related to the assembly, calibration, integration, and operation of emissions testing equipment. This role involves the assembly, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of emissions-related testing apparatus under the guidance of senior specialists, engineers, and project teams. The technician will also ensure the effective operation of emissions laboratory equipment and maintain the organization and cleanliness of lab environments. Collaboration with operations and engineering teams is essential to guarantee that Test Systems Engineering delivers high-quality emissions data to clients.

The Senior Emissions Test Technician should possess an understanding of, or a willingness to learn about:
  • Basic Chemistry of Combustion
  • Core concepts of Thermodynamics
  • Fundamental principles of Fluid and Gas Dynamics
  • Basic Psychrometrics
  • Concepts related to Aerosols
  • Emissions Measurement Systems
  • Global Emissions Regulatory Frameworks
  • Industrial Automation, including but not limited to:
    • Programmable Logic Controllers
    • Mass Flow Controllers
    • Flow control devices and strategies
    • Fluid flow systems

Essential Duties:
  • Execute diverse and complex tasks to support emissions test configuration assembly, integration, and data collection
  • Oversee the layout, operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Emissions Lab, ensuring all resources are adequately managed
  • Maintain oversight of all activities in the Emissions Lab, prioritizing tasks in collaboration with operations and engineering teams
  • Provide training to less experienced technicians and engineers as necessary
  • Ensure that personnel are properly trained and qualified for their assigned tasks
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations
  • Support process improvement and technology development initiatives under the supervision of Lead Technicians and Engineers
  • Draft technical documents, test procedures, and operational instructions
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field from an accredited institution, or an Associate's degree with five years of relevant laboratory or workshop experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods (one to three hours) and work in confined spaces as needed
  • Capability to climb stairs and work from elevated platforms (e.g., cherry pickers or scissor lifts)
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven, and potentially high-pressure laboratory environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required
