This team underwrites a wide array of business and industry sectors, such as Manufacturing, Professional Services, Financial Institutions, Real Estate, Distributors, Technology, Wholesale, and Retail. Typical account premiums range from $75,000 to over $2,000,000 on a multi-line basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting Expertise:

Evaluate applications and financial data to assess risk acceptability in line with CNA's standards. Understand pricing elements and rating methodologies, utilizing predictive modeling tools to price risks based on financial and competitive assessments.

Employ all relevant underwriting tools (e.g., RST, BPMT, Merlin) and apply strategic knowledge to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines. Exhibit technical underwriting capabilities through comprehensive account reviews and meticulous documentation.

Analyze information regarding adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and declinations to drive results within the designated territory. Stay informed on state and territory regulations and trends.


Portfolio Management:

Oversee an assigned portfolio to meet goals related to gross written premium, profitability, retention, product mix, and new business. Effectively manage time and resources to optimize producer performance.

Adopt an enterprise-wide perspective to identify cross-selling opportunities and foster growth across various lines of business and customer segments. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of CNA's products and clearly communicate the company's position during sales interactions.


Sales & Distribution Management:

Establish and maintain robust sales practices utilizing all CNA systems and tools. Cultivate producer relationships to enhance pipeline development and drive performance to exceed expectations.

Formulate and implement distributor-specific strategies, monitor performance, and adjust plans to ensure a strong pipeline for future growth. Engage in effective relationship management and customer interactions to build trust and facilitate negotiations.

Proactively identify cross-sell opportunities and collaborate with other underwriters to provide comprehensive insurance solutions for clients.


Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of underwriting processes, coverages, and tools to evaluate information for making informed decisions on renewals and new business. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external partners.

Ability to identify customer needs, present tailored solutions, handle objections, and close deals. Sound judgment and negotiation skills to make informed business decisions based on authority levels.

Proficient in problem identification, analysis, and resolution, with a capacity to learn quickly, adapt to changes, and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Depending on experience and qualifications, candidates may be considered for various Underwriter positions, including Underwriter, Underwriting Specialist, or Underwriting Consultant, typically requiring 3+ years of relevant experience.
