The Day Care Council of New York Inc. is a coalition of four independent nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing comprehensive services to children and families across New York City. Our collective expertise spans various communities, including Latino, Haitian, and Asian populations, and focuses on enhancing child care and early education services.

Role Responsibilities

The Director of External Affairs will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the primary spokesperson for the organization, engaging with partners, funders, and governmental bodies.
  • Meeting with legislators to elevate the organization’s profile in early childhood education discussions.
  • Collaborating with policy teams to educate stakeholders and prepare advocacy materials such as op-eds and briefs.
  • Working alongside marketing teams to create and distribute public communications, including policy statements and annual reports.
  • Utilizing research and program evaluations to secure additional funding for expanded services.
  • Partnering with development staff to identify and pursue funding opportunities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in early childhood education, nonprofit management, or related fields.
  • Strong familiarity with New York City and State government processes in education and human services.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the early childhood education landscape, including its challenges and opportunities.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a history of successful collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media for advocacy purposes.
  • A high degree of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for varied audiences.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; bilingual candidates are preferred.

Employment Details

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 35 hours of work per week. The salary for this role is set at $110,000, with eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package.

While a hybrid work arrangement is currently in place, this position may necessitate regular in-person engagements. The role will involve collaboration across all partner organizations and fieldwork.
