POSITION OVERVIEW


The Nursing Director, under the supervision of the Health Care Administrator, is responsible for the management and oversight of nursing care for all residents at Williamsburg Landing Health and Rehabilitation Center. This role ensures adherence to both state and federal regulations, as well as compliance with accreditation standards.

The Nursing Director plays a crucial role in setting departmental performance objectives and advising on policies to fulfill the organization's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and maintains nursing service objectives, practice standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Health Care Administrator and the Medical Director of the facility.
2. Establishes operational processes and ensures the availability of necessary resources, including equipment, supplies, and staffing, to guarantee high-quality care for residents.
3. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and assessment of nursing staff; collaborates with Shift Supervisors and Nurse Educator to facilitate the onboarding process and staff training recommendations.
4. Monitors position control for Health & Rehabilitation to ensure timely advertisement of vacancies; updates shared documents to reflect accurate position control.
5. Ensures timely and accurate processing of all worker's compensation matters before submission to Talent Management.
6. Co-investigates with Shift Supervisors and addresses areas for improvement identified through employee feedback and interviews.
7. Conducts daily rounds on resident floors to observe nursing practices and assess resident satisfaction; communicates findings to the Health Care Administrator.
8. Assists in formulating the annual departmental operating and capital budgets.
9. Monitors employee turnover rates and collaborates on initiatives aimed at reducing turnover.
10. Advocates for resident interests in multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring that care plans are developed in partnership with Therapy, Activities, Social Work, and medical staff.
11. In conjunction with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, develops and implements a formal Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
12. Recommends and executes corrective action plans for past compliance issues, involving nursing staff in the process.
13. Leads weekly quality meetings to address concerns related to resident care metrics such as weights, readmissions, and medication usage; initiates formal QAPI action plans as needed.
14. Conducts audits of medical records to identify procedural gaps and ensures corrective actions are taken; verifies documentation for skilled residents to facilitate payment for services.
15. Collaborates with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, along with Security and/or local law enforcement, in investigating cases of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
16. Shares on-call responsibilities in a regular rotation, ensuring 24-hour nursing administration coverage.
17. Fosters positive interactions with residents, visitors, and fellow employees; reviews resident feedback to enhance service quality.
18. Coordinates with Shift Supervisors to ensure staff receives all mandatory training and encourages participation in professional development opportunities.
19. Holds regular meetings with the Medical Director and other healthcare providers to discuss clinical initiatives and improvement opportunities.
20. Conducts monthly meetings with nursing staff to address areas for improvement and share updates on community events.
21. Oversees the completion of annual performance evaluations for nursing staff, ensuring timely execution.
22. Holds nursing staff accountable for their responsibilities and issues Employee Disciplinary Notices (EDNs) when necessary.
23. Coordinates care with contracted providers, ensuring documentation from visits is uploaded into the electronic medical record (EMR).
24. Inputs quality data into the monthly COR spreadsheet and ensures timely data submission by reporting managers; leads the COR call.
25. Reviews monthly CASPER quality reports with the MDS Coordinator to identify improvement areas and develops QAPI action plans as needed.
26. Works with the MDS representative to ensure timely transmission of MDS submissions.
27. Participates in committees as required.
28. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required, along with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a long-term care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive understanding of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices; thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing homes; familiarity with Medicare regulations; extensive knowledge of resident care standards, psychosocial aspects of gerontology, and medical record management.
