Position Highlights

  • This is a full-time position, adhering to a first shift schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required during emergencies or for training purposes.
  • The role allows for a hybrid work environment with the possibility of a flexible schedule.
  • The incumbent will act as a liaison to various federal and state agencies, including the Federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
  • The position involves the implementation of the Connecticut Radiological Emergency Plan.

About Us

The Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) program aims to develop and exercise strategies to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from incidents involving commercial nuclear power plants. Our collaboration with local, state, and federal partners enables us to execute planning initiatives, conduct training, drills, and exercises, and provide support to various organizations. The DEMHS REP Program Unit offers diverse work locations, including the office, the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), and remote options.

Job Responsibilities

The role involves independently managing a comprehensive range of tasks related to planning, monitoring, evaluating, and implementing the State's Emergency Preparedness Plans. Specific duties include:

  • Developing and updating Radiological Emergency Plans (RERP) in compliance with state statutes.
  • Providing technical support in research, planning, data analysis, and training for emergency responders.
  • Acting as a liaison to federal and state agencies.
  • Conducting training programs and drills for state and local officials.
  • Preparing evaluations of Connecticut's emergency preparedness status.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of six years of experience in planning, technical writing, program management, or related fields. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for part of the experience, and a Master's degree in a relevant field may substitute for additional experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) principles.
  • Familiarity with FEMA's Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program Manual.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Off-Site Response Organizations (OROs).

Special Requirements

  • A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required.
  • Travel may be necessary.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal hours during emergencies.
