Overview
The Clinical Specialty Coordinator is accountable for overseeing patient care management within a specific program or designated workgroup. This role is pivotal in identifying and achieving program objectives and outcomes while adhering to regulatory and professional standards. The coordinator is committed to fostering a cost-effective, innovative, and customer-centric service environment.

This position entails providing leadership in training, clinical oversight, and competency completion, serving as a vital resource for management in daily operations.

Responsibilities
Employs the nursing process to deliver exceptional patient care. Exhibits comprehensive knowledge of unit practices, current issues, trends, and technology/instrumentation. Ensures daily coordination of procedures, guaranteeing the availability of all necessary resources for their specialty. Demonstrates expertise across all staffing roles and provides technical support within their specialty. Aids colleagues by offering feedback on prioritizing actions and anticipating patient care needs. Delivers direct patient care through the application of the nursing process, consistently gathering and analyzing patient and significant other data. Records initial assessments, ongoing evaluations, and patient response evaluations.

Develops, revises, and documents care plans, including discharge planning, in collaboration with patients, their families, and healthcare providers.

Exhibits proficiency in administering and monitoring therapeutic interventions for complex patients, becoming a sought-after resource for this expertise.

Assists in identifying and resolving quality improvement issues related to patient care. Implements interventions that uphold patient dignity, privacy, and safety.

Provides leadership in achieving departmental organizational goals and objectives. Facilitates and monitors ongoing activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Demonstrates accountability and knowledge regarding departmental and organizational objectives. Promotes departmental philosophy while nurturing a positive, supportive, and collegial work environment. Aids in the development and monitoring of program and clinical outcomes, recommending enhancements as necessary. Coordinates departmental orientation, continuing education, and clinical development initiatives. Monitors and reports compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Evaluates team performance and delivers constructive feedback. Capable of assuming a leadership role and managing emergency situations.

Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Operationalizes the quality improvement/performance improvement program for the department. Facilitates staff education and engagement in performance improvement activities. Regularly communicates customer satisfaction results, recommending and implementing plans to enhance satisfaction. Investigates departmental incidents and incorporates findings into practice, coaching and mentoring others accordingly. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement processes and participates in their design and implementation.

Assists in the selection and management of specialty areas and resources for a defined workgroup. Participates in personnel selection and supervision. Aids in performance appraisal completion. Generates and participates in developing departmental schedules and managing daily staffing operations. Assists with staff assignments and patient throughput. Investigates budgetary variances and documents staffing discrepancies. Provides input for the annual budget process. Monitors and maintains departmental cost-containment strategies, identifying and implementing measures to reduce operational costs.

Demonstrates effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Fosters a positive, supportive, and professional work environment free from disruptive behavior. Engages in all professional relationships with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual. Adheres to the Chain of Command for assistance with unresolved issues and conflict resolution. Seeks and provides constructive feedback, engaging in peer-to-peer feedback and mediation as necessary. Promotes effective conflict resolution.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree preferred in Nursing.

A Master’s degree in a health-related field with certification in a nursing specialty may be considered in lieu of a Master’s in Nursing.


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in the specialty area required; three (3) years as an RN preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: REQUIRED

RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.
BLS (CPR) - American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider

Certification in a clinical specialty as defined by National Certification requirements is required within two (2) years of hire into the Clinical Specialty Coordinator position.


PREFERRED
ACLS | Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
PALS | Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred.
