Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Team Lead to join our team at SGS. As a Laboratory Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading a team of chemists in analytical techniques and analysis of data. You will also be responsible for providing technical guidance and support to team members, as well as ensuring compliance with laboratory quality practices and SOPs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances for consumer product testing purposes.
  • Independently conduct sample analysis of different complexity, preparation, extraction, and digestion with and without the use of instrumentation following official methods and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
  • Lead the team in analytical techniques and analysis of data.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory quality practices and SOPs.
  • Provide 'best in class' service to clients by promptly communicating issues or delays.
  • Train all Laboratory personnel.
  • Monitor performance of lab staff and employ coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to receiving specialists to aid in sample login and transport of clients' samples.
  • Provide assistance to clients in explaining Laboratory analysis, and technical solutions where appropriate.
  • Assume responsibility of authenticity Laboratory Certificates of Analysis.
  • Receive orders from clients on submitted samples, follow up on job progress and reports status to clients.
  • Make recommendations to Regional Laboratory manager on upgrading the Laboratory.
  • Take an active role in local marketing efforts.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of sampling techniques and sample sources.
  • Perform testing and analysis, as well as other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • 7+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment.
  • 2+ years of protocol and report writing experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of routine & non-routine testing methods.

Alternatively, you may have a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry and similar disciplines, with 3+ years of experience in the laboratory.

Physical Demands of the Job

This role requires:

  • Ability to stand, move, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, taste/smell, lift/carry/push or pull.
