Job Title: Social Emotional Learning Specialist

Job Summary:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Social Emotional Learning Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our prevention and education team, you will work closely with schools and community partners to develop and implement evidence-based social-emotional learning and substance abuse prevention programs for youth ages 11-18.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement social-emotional learning programs for youth in low-income communities
  • Lead or co-lead prevention education classes
  • Teach trauma-informed curriculum to students with a history of potentially traumatic or adverse childhood experiences
  • Engage students in learning through various instructional strategies
  • Collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups, social services agencies, and other youth and community organizations to provide a comprehensive social-emotional learning and substance abuse prevention program
  • Network with other prevention and social service agencies to disseminate the social-emotional learning program
  • Document program activities and submit reports according to established deadlines
  • Attend training, seminars, and workshops to achieve required credentials and continuing education
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for students

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Public Health, Counseling, Psychology, Health, or a related field
  • Experience in teaching and working with youth in a school or community setting
  • Experience in multicultural environments with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences
  • Ability to understand and effectively use technology and other learning applications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Public Health, Counseling, Psychology, Health, or a related field
  • Prior experience in teaching social-emotional learning curriculum or substance abuse prevention programs
  • Awareness and comprehension of current teaching strategies
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
