SUMMARY

The Adjunct Instructor for Facility Maintenance is tasked with delivering exceptional, industry-standard education to students, equipping them for successful careers in the Facilities Maintenance Engineer sector. The role encompasses various instructional duties, including building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and boiler certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Responsibilities
  • Deliver personalized instruction utilizing diverse learning methods, instructional resources, and suitable media to facilitate classroom lectures, coursework, and practical projects that prepare students for entry-level professional roles.
  • Design and implement engaging learning experiences based on contemporary industry practices.
  • Possess expertise in the safe management and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Guide, mentor, and support students in fulfilling program requirements, including coursework, interpersonal skills, career aspirations, and professional work ethics.
  • Encourage ongoing student feedback for instructional and program enhancement.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, ensuring students are well-versed in safety techniques and that all equipment is maintained in optimal working condition.
  • Assess and document student competencies, course progression, attendance, and workplace behaviors in alignment with institutional policies.
  • Maintain accurate written and digital records, responding promptly to information requests.
  • Engage in curriculum development and updates that reflect principles of diversity and inclusivity.
  • Foster program growth through student retention and recruitment efforts.
  • Develop and sustain comprehensive program curriculum documentation in accordance with institutional standards, ensuring alignment with current industry standards and practices.
  • Review and validate course competencies and skills necessary for entry-level employment in the field, adapting curriculum as needed.
  • Evaluate and grade students in a timely manner to ensure learning outcomes are achieved.
  • Support the maintenance of industry-based program accreditation, preparing students for relevant industry certifications.
  • Manage classroom dynamics to maintain a conducive learning environment, addressing student conduct issues as per institutional guidelines.
  • Assist in managing program budgets, including requisition and inventory control of equipment and supplies.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Establish and nurture professional relationships within the industry.
  • Actively participate in college-wide initiatives supporting regional accreditation and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to student achievement strategies to enhance retention, completion, and progression.
  • Collaborate with college student services and advisory committees to facilitate student access to employment opportunities and maintain job placement records.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position does not include supervisory duties.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This role is part of a bargaining unit represented by the local union.
  • Maintain first aid/CPR certification.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel-related tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Facility Maintenance Engineering or a closely related field, with experience serving as a substitute.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of active employment in the industry.
  • 1-3 years of experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and grounds maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Facility Maintenance Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or learning challenges.
  • Prior experience as a building engineer.
  • Previous teaching or training experience.
