Position Summary

The On-Call Substitute will provide essential support in the classroom by preparing and conducting activities, assisting with meals, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children. Responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with agency policies and relevant regulations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist regular classroom staff under their supervision, providing support as needed.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards for both children and adults.
  • Facilitate daily activities using appropriate educational materials.
  • Support meal and snack times as required.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the classroom and play areas.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and volunteers.
  • Engage in meaningful interactions with children throughout the day.
  • Maintain professional relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of client information.
  • Contribute to team dynamics through constructive communication.
  • Prioritize the health, safety, and supervision of children at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Understanding of child development principles and adult learning styles.
  • Knowledge of bilingual and multicultural education principles.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English is preferred.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic analytical skills for interpreting procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with sound judgment.

Personal Attributes:

  • Dependable, proactive, and capable of working independently.
  • Genuine interest in child development and family engagement.

Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Current TB clearance.
  • Required vaccinations: MMR, Tdap; Flu shot recommended.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 6 units in Early Childhood Education is preferred.

Work Environment

Employees may work outdoors for varying durations and will encounter moderate to noisy environments.


Physical Demands

Employees must be able to communicate effectively, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
