Position Summary

The On-Call Substitute will provide essential support in the classroom, engaging in activities, meal preparation, and direct interaction with children. Responsibilities will be executed in alignment with the organization's policies and relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist regular classroom staff under their guidance as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards for children and adults.
  • Facilitate daily activities using appropriate educational materials.
  • Support meal and snack preparation as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the classroom and outdoor play areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers and volunteers.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations with children throughout the day.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to team dynamics through constructive communication.
  • Prioritize the health, safety, and supervision of children at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Understanding of child development principles and adult learning methodologies.
  • Familiarity with bilingual and multicultural education principles.
  • Basic communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish/English is preferred.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to interpret and apply procedures and regulations.
  • Competence in basic mathematical operations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to follow varied instructions in different formats.

Personal Attributes:

  • Dependable, proactive, and capable of working independently.
  • Genuine interest in child development and family engagement.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Current TB clearance.
  • Required vaccinations (MMR, Tdap) and recommended flu shot.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six or more units in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
Work Environment

The role involves working outdoors for a portion of the day, with moderate to noisy environments typical in a classroom setting.

Physical Demands

Regular communication, mobility, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally are required.
