Job Summary

Avondale House is a leading provider of educational services to individuals with autism. We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Special Education Aide to join our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement student work activities in accordance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Plans (BIPs), and supplement plans under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Participate in Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings in the absence of the teacher.
  • Collect data on academics and behavior.
  • Complete required special education reports and other documents.
  • Monitor and engage with students at all times, ensuring they remain on task and redirecting as necessary.
  • Ensure ratio compliance at all times.
  • Assist students with hygiene as needed.
  • Prepare the classroom for the instructional day each morning and clean and prepare the classroom for the following day each afternoon.
  • Monitor and support student arrivals and dismissals.
  • Show compassion, build rapport, and encourage students to reach their full potential.
  • Collaborate with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; at least 15 hours of college coursework in a related field preferred.
  • Education Aide Certification through the Texas Education Agency (TEA) preferred.
  • Prior experience working with students with Autism or intellectual disabilities required.
  • Ability to take initiative in planning and starting classroom activities.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification required.
  • Current, valid Texas Driver's License required.
  • Ability to demonstrate Avondale House Core Values: Commitment, Achievement, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, Growth.
  • Passion to assist those with Autism and intellectual disabilities in order to reach their full potential.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Lifting/Moving up to 50 lbs and lifting/moving up to 100 plus lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • Stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.
