Director of Social Work Job Description

At the International Institute of St. Louis, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Social Work to lead our social work programs and services. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating social work programs that meet the needs of at-risk refugee and immigrant populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement department protocols and procedures to ensure high-quality social work services.
  • Initiate and set goals for programs aligned with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of social work programs from start to completion, including deadlines, milestones, and processes.
  • Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements.
  • Oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of social work programs, products, and services.
  • Apply change, risk, and resource management principles as needed.
  • Read reports prepared by managers to determine progress and issues.
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies.
  • Grant management includes writing grant proposals, data collection, and analysis for grant reporting and quality improvement.
  • Represent the organization in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Participate in fundraising planning, implementation, and evaluation, including resource requirements and identification of potential funding sources.
  • Supervise program and project managers to provide feedback and resolve complex problems.
  • Provide weekly or monthly supervision and prepare annual performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team and collaborate with other departments to ensure integration of services agency-wide.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a program director or other managerial position.
  • Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods.
  • Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and program management software.
  • A business acumen with a strategic ability.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Relevant community outreach or organizing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects.
Education and Experience:
  • MSW (LMSW or LCSW preferred).
  • 7-10 years of social work experience working in a non-profit setting.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in program management, including designing, implementing, and evaluating social work programs that meet business needs.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant writing, proposal development, budgeting, and grant post-award administration.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in supervising and mentoring a multidisciplinary team or social workers and interns, including fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
