Job Summary

The Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in preparing financial reports, journal entries, and reconciliations. This position requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage multiple tasks, and take direction while working independently. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a solid understanding of internal controls, and US GAAP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document financial transactions in the general ledger.
  • Assist in preparing current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions.
  • Produce error-free accounting reports for review.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
  • Provide input into the department's goal setting process.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Develop and document business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Communicate effectively with agencies and insureds on refunds or commissions.
  • Contribute to a strong client relationship through positive interactions with client personnel.
  • Communicate with Manager on work status and issues that may arise.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
    • Minimum of three years accounting experience or equivalent knowledge.
    • Insurance industry experience not required but preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be self-directed and able to meet deadlines.
  • Highly computer literate with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with core knowledge of internal controls and US GAAP.
  • Solid understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels.
  • Act as a relationship builder and collaborator; ability to drive consensus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting and facilitating meetings.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Awareness of business trends.
  • Experience with creating financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
