Position Overview: Become an integral part of a physician-led multispecialty group consisting of over 500 providers, dedicated to a collaborative approach in patient care. The Oncology Hospitalist is tasked with overseeing the inpatient management of oncology patients at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC). This role involves the acute care of existing hematology and oncology inpatients, as well as providing inpatient consultations for hematologic or oncologic concerns referred by other physicians.

Responsibilities: The position encompasses traditional Internal Medicine responsibilities with a specific emphasis on hematology and oncology. Inpatient oncologists will administer necessary chemotherapy in conjunction with the patient's primary oncologist and manage patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Collaboration: The oncology hospitalist will work closely with ambulatory medical oncologists within the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute. This institute is a comprehensive practice with multiple locations and offers telemedicine services across the region. It is QOPI certified and CoC accredited, providing numerous rewarding opportunities, including access to over 100 clinical trials. The integrated program features leading surgical expertise, including the State's only fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, alongside other highly specialized, fellowship-trained physicians to support a growing oncology program.

Support Structure: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit at SARMC in Boise is currently supported by another oncology hospitalist and two full-time Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The full-service cancer center offers collaborative care with medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, featuring an integrative care team that includes advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social work support, genetics counseling, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards provide opportunities for collaboration with fellowship-trained surgeons across various specialties.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification within three years of employment through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
  • Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred;
  • Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
  • Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
  • Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at SARMC and affiliated hospitals;
  • Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
