Position Overview: Become an integral part of a physician-led, multi-specialty group comprising over 500 providers dedicated to a collaborative approach in patient care. The Oncology Hospitalist plays a crucial role in overseeing inpatient oncology management at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC). This position involves the acute management of existing hematology and oncology inpatients, as well as providing inpatient consultations for hematologic or oncologic concerns.

Key Responsibilities: The role encompasses traditional Internal Medicine practices with a specialized focus on hematology and oncology. Inpatient oncologists will administer necessary chemotherapy in partnership with the patient's primary oncologist and manage patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Collaboration: The oncology hospitalist will work closely with ambulatory medical oncologists within the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute. With multiple locations and telemedicine options available, the institute offers a comprehensive practice that is QOPI certified and CoC accredited, providing numerous opportunities including participation in over 100 clinical trials. The program is further enhanced by access to leading surgical expertise, including the state's only fellowship-trained surgical oncologist and other highly specialized physicians.

Support Structure: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit at SARMC in Boise is currently supported by one additional oncology hospitalist and two full-time Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The collaboration with a full-service cancer center, encompassing medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, ensures an integrative care team that includes advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social work support, genetics counseling, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards facilitate collaboration with fellowship-trained surgeons across various specialties.

Innovative Programs: The institution offers innovative initiatives such as lung cancer screening, a lung nodule clinic, neuro-oncology services, and robust clinical trials through the Montana Cancer Consortium. Primary care providers in strategic locations throughout the region support the specialists, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
  • Board certification or the ability to obtain certification within three years of employment through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
  • Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred;
  • Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
  • Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
  • Ability to obtain Idaho medical licensure and privileges at SARMC and affiliated hospitals;
  • Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
