Position Overview: Become an integral part of a physician-led, multispecialty group comprising over 500 providers dedicated to a collaborative approach in patient care. The Oncology Hospitalist plays a pivotal role in overseeing the inpatient management of oncology patients at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC). This position focuses on the acute care of existing hematology and oncology inpatients, as well as providing consultations for hematologic or oncologic issues referred by other physicians.

Scope of Responsibilities: The role encompasses traditional Internal Medicine practices with an enhanced focus on hematology and oncology. Inpatient oncologists will administer necessary chemotherapy in conjunction with the patient's primary oncologist and manage patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Collaboration: The oncology hospitalist will work closely with ambulatory medical oncologists within the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute, which is recognized for its comprehensive services. The institute operates in multiple locations and offers telemedicine options, ensuring a full-spectrum practice that is QOPI certified and CoC accredited. This environment provides rewarding opportunities, including access to over 100 clinical trials.

Support Structure: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit at SARMC in Boise is currently supported by another oncology hospitalist and two full-time Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The collaboration extends to a full-service cancer center, which includes medical, radiation, and surgical oncology, ensuring integrative care through a multidisciplinary team comprising advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social workers, genetic counselors, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards facilitate collaboration with fellowship-trained surgeons across various specialties, enhancing patient care.

Innovative Programs: The institute offers innovative programs such as lung cancer screening, a lung nodule clinic, neuro-oncology services, and robust clinical trials through the Montana Cancer Consortium. Primary care providers across key geographic areas support the specialists, fostering a comprehensive care network.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
  • Board certification or the ability to obtain certification within three years of employment through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
  • Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred;
  • Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
  • Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
  • Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at SARMC and affiliated hospitals;
  • Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
