Position Overview: Become an integral part of a physician-led multispecialty group comprising over 500 providers, emphasizing a collaborative approach to patient care. The Oncology Hospitalist plays a crucial role in overseeing the inpatient management of oncology patients at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC). This role involves the acute care of existing hematology and oncology inpatients, as well as providing consultations for oncologic issues referred by other physicians.
Key Responsibilities: The Oncology Hospitalist will manage chemotherapy treatments in conjunction with the primary oncologist and oversee patients undergoing radiation therapy. This position also encompasses traditional Internal Medicine practices with a concentrated focus on hematology and oncology.
Collaboration: The hospitalist will work closely with ambulatory medical oncologists at the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute, which operates in multiple locations and offers telemedicine services. The institute is recognized for its comprehensive practice, QOPI certification, and CoC accreditation, providing numerous opportunities including access to over 100 clinical trials. The program is further supported by highly specialized surgical oncologists and fellowship-trained physicians.
Support System: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit at SARMC in Boise is currently staffed by one other oncology hospitalist and two full-time advanced practice providers (APPs). The full-service cancer center provides integrative care with a team that includes advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social workers, genetic counselors, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards facilitate collaboration with fellowship-trained surgeons across various specialties.
Innovative Programs: The oncology program includes initiatives such as lung cancer screening, a lung nodule clinic, neuro-oncology services, and robust clinical trials through partnerships with regional cancer consortia. Primary care providers in strategic locations throughout the area enhance the support for specialists.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
- Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
- Board certification or eligibility for certification within three years through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
- Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred;
- Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
- Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
- Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at SARMC and affiliated hospitals;
- Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
