Position Overview: Become an integral part of a physician-led multispecialty group comprising over 500 providers, dedicated to a collaborative approach in patient care. The Oncology Hospitalist plays a crucial role in overseeing inpatient oncology care at the medical center. This position involves the acute management of existing hematology and oncology inpatients, along with providing consultations for hematologic or oncologic issues referred by other physicians.
Responsibilities: The role encompasses traditional Internal Medicine practices with a specialized focus on hematology and oncology. Inpatient oncologists will administer necessary chemotherapy in conjunction with the patient's primary oncologist and manage patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Collaboration: The oncology hospitalist will work closely with ambulatory medical oncologists within the cancer institute, which is recognized for its comprehensive practice and offers numerous clinical trials. The program is supported by leading surgical expertise, including fellowship-trained surgical oncologists and other highly specialized physicians.
Support Structure: The dedicated 10-bed inpatient unit is currently supported by another oncology hospitalist and two full-time advanced practice providers. The full-service cancer center provides integrative care team support, including advanced practice providers, nurse navigators, social work, genetics counseling, and nutritionists. Weekly tumor boards facilitate collaboration with fellowship-trained surgeons across various specialties.
Innovative Programs: The institution offers various innovative programs, including lung cancer screening, a lung nodule clinic, neuro-oncology services, and robust clinical trials.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
- Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA Internal Medicine residency program;
- Board certification or the ability to obtain certification within three years of employment through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS);
- Completion of a Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship is preferred;
- Board certification in Medical Oncology/Hematology is preferred;
- Fellowship training in onco-hospitalist is preferred;
- Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at affiliated hospitals;
- Valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
