Position Overview

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students with online learning and managing the administrative functions of The Excel Center. This position collaborates closely with both staff and students to ensure smooth operations within the educational environment. Responsibilities include aiding online instructors by facilitating class broadcasts, organizing paperwork, and ensuring students grasp the material effectively. Additional tasks involve setting up student profiles, supporting credit recovery initiatives, and maintaining accurate attendance records. The Educational Support Specialist works alongside the instructional team to achieve educational objectives while adhering to the Indiana Academic Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates student success in credit acquisition by providing support in online courses, ensuring comprehension through reading assistance, note-taking strategies, and study techniques, while maintaining a disciplined classroom environment.
  • Establishes student accounts and monitors pertinent data related to student and staff performance to set improvement goals and drive future evaluations. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the student information system.
  • Oversees testing and independent study periods, assisting with attendance tracking.
  • Manages enrollment processes for new students, including troubleshooting and decision-making aligned with The Excel Center's educational model.
  • Supports new student orientation, helping newcomers acclimate to school expectations and progress academically.
  • Maintains office equipment and addresses any technical issues that arise.
  • Develops personal professional goals and action plans, reflecting on past objectives to enhance professional practice.
  • Collaborates with staff to create and implement school-wide initiatives focused on graduation rates, enrollment, student achievement, and retention.
  • Works with coaches and leadership to support students' pathways to graduation and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Assists staff in professional development, training, and goal-setting efforts.
  • Promotes a high-performance culture among staff and students.
  • Engages in student recruitment and outreach activities.

Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Background - No specific degree or credential requirements; candidates should demonstrate relevant experience and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Tutoring Skills - Proficient in various subjects with the ability to convey concepts clearly, ideally for high school-aged students in diverse educational settings.
  • Positive Academic Attitude - Believes in the potential for all students to succeed and is driven to enhance their educational outcomes.
  • Goal-Oriented - Focused on identifying key results and the necessary steps to achieve them, with strong prioritization skills.
