Chief Operations Officer - Membership and Wellness

The Granite YMCA is on the lookout for a seasoned leader to become a vital part of our impactful organization as the Chief Operations Officer.

This role will concentrate on strategic initiatives, growth opportunities, best practices, and overall management of operations related to Membership and Wellness.

The successful candidate will supervise multiple branches, their operations, and provide guidance to key branch leadership.

The Granite YMCA comprises several independent YMCAs that have united over the past 25 years. Our membership and wellness operations differ across our service areas, yet our branches maintain strong connections to their communities.

Following a remarkable surge in membership post-COVID, our next strategic focus is to align our operations for sustained growth.

As a $26 million Association with $6 million in membership revenue and 4 YMCAs offering membership and fitness programs, this position also oversees the Health Intervention branch and its associated initiatives.

These initiatives include Chronic Disease Management, Mood Lifters, Mental Health Support, and partnerships with other YMCAs, local healthcare providers, government entities, and the CDC.

Our Health Intervention programs have received national recognition and are led by knowledgeable professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the strategic initiatives, growth, best practices, and overall operations of Membership and Wellness for The Granite YMCA.
  • Manage assigned branch leadership, branch operations, and programs; implement advanced supervision, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in designated program areas.
  • Oversee related Quality Circles, committees, and project teams.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train branch leadership and direct reports.
  • Evaluate and develop direct reports, including professional development plans, aiming to meet or exceed organizational performance standards.
  • Supervise key leadership within the Association concerning Membership and Wellness.
  • Participate in the Senior Management Team for The Granite YMCA.
  • Collaborate with and support the respective Community Advisory Boards.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget to achieve financial objectives and manage expenses.
  • Represent and advocate for the YMCA within the local community, fostering positive relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental bodies; support branch leadership in building strong community influence.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation to develop programs that align with the YMCA's mission, goals, and strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or recreation management preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of management experience, ideally within a YMCA or similar non-profit organization.
  • At least 5 years of experience in relevant program management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing a mix of membership, sales, retention, and wellness services.
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification or the ability to obtain it within two years.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and general computer and tablet functions.
