About the Role:
Cornell University is seeking a highly skilled Business Development Specialist to join our team at the New York State Center of Excellence for Food and Agriculture (CoE) at Cornell AgriTech. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in driving economic growth and innovation in the food and agriculture industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide business mentorship and technical expertise to entrepreneurs and companies participating in the CoE's programs.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow New York's food and agriculture economy, including recruiting companies and establishing partnerships.
- Foster key relationships for CoE participants, connecting them with resources such as Cornell services, research, innovation, and technology.
- Assist participants in refining technical tools, such as business plans and pitch decks, and provide guidance on corporate governance, organizational structure, operations, and team building.
- Lead CoE projects involving research collaborations, facility development, and grants.
Requirements:
- Experience in supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing, with a demonstrated commitment to these values.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of experience in agriculture, agriculture technology, food, beverage, or related industry and/or startup experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in economic development, supervision, business strategy, finance, and/or operations.
- Proficiency in networking and communicating with a diverse population of groups and individuals.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at any given time, work independently, and make decisions that can significantly impact the university and projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience mentoring startups and growth-stage companies.
- Management and leadership experience within the food/agriculture industry.
- Experience founding and/or scaling a food or agriculture company.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local economic development programs.
