Facilities Maintenance Associate

Washington and Jefferson College is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our campus facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Housekeeping and Janitorial Duties: Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and wax floors, as well as clean walls, vents, screens, furniture, drinking fountains, light fixtures, window blinds, and other interior fixtures.
- Special Function Set-ups and Breakdowns: Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture, furnishings, supplies, equipment, and other items for special events and functions.
- Trash and Recycling Management: Clean and empty trash cans, sweep entryways, and empty exterior cigarette urns and trash cans immediately outside building entrances.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean restrooms, plunger sinks, and toilets, and replenish supplies.
- Supply Management: Organize and supply custodial closets as needed.
- Physical Plant Maintenance: Change interior light bulbs that can be reached from the sixth step of a ladder or lower, and make minor repairs such as replacing sweeper belts or removing light fixture covers.
- Snow and Ice Removal: Remove snow and ice from College roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and steps.
- Event Support: Assist with athletic and event set-ups and breakdowns as required.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; no prior work experience necessary.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, push and pull, stand, walk up to 8 hours per day, climb ladders, scaffolds up to 10' high, and stairs, bend, stoop, and kneel.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend at a level appropriate to the duties of the position, follow instructions given orally or in writing, and work with a diverse group of people.
This is a full-time position that requires working a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings, as well as weekends and holidays. The Custodian will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and may be exposed to dust, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
