Job Description

Four Hands is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements. This role requires a deep understanding of multi-state payroll tax laws and regulations, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Approval of Company's payroll through 3rd party vendor, Rippling, in an outsource arrangement
  • Prepare, review and submit entries for approval and posting
  • Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of payroll processes and procedures for multiple states, reviewing important information each pay period (i.e. base wages, headcount, salary changes, benefit changes, etc.) to ensure accurate payment to employee
  • Lead annual 401K audit of Payroll contributions and funding
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit accounts including preparing necessary adjusting journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Drive acceleration of the current GL close process by identifying and leading the implementation of automation and streamlining of the monthly/quarterly close processes
  • Prepare supporting schedules and facilitate follow-up as part of the external and bank audit
  • Establish and own effective internal controls and appropriate accounting procedures, including evaluation of processes and controls for compliance
  • Interact with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting challenges, drive operational improvement, and enhance financial processes
  • Continuously scale and improve current processes and policies to meet the needs of a high-growth organization

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • 2+ years of progressive payroll accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibilities
  • Strong multi-state payroll tax knowledge including tax nexus, compliance rules for withholding and unemployment taxes and multi-state mobile workforce compliance
  • High attention to detail and processing diligence is a must in order to prevent company exposure to tax penalties/assessments, and to ensure a high degree of compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations
  • Positive attitude, ability to work well and fast under pressure, exceptional customer service
  • Results driven with a high sense of urgency, taking ownership and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP, general accounting processes and internal controls, and financial analysis tools
  • Intermediate-level experience using Excel, including the ability to work with complex tables and X-look-ups
