Legal Assistant, Medicaid Fraud Investigation Unit

Job Responsibilities
As a member of the Medicaid Fraud Investigation Unit (MFIU), your primary role will involve compiling logs to facilitate discovery processes. These logs will encompass search warrants, subpoenas, medical records, financial documents, and other relevant agency materials. You will be tasked with drafting legal motions and assisting in the preparation of indictments. Additionally, you will be responsible for redacting documents in compliance with legal standards, organizing both hardcopy and digital files for discovery packages, and ensuring timely delivery in accordance with court regulations.
Key Duties Include:
- Compiling trial exhibits and notebooks.
- Assisting in the discovery process, including document production and drafting responses to interrogatories.
- Maintaining communication with law enforcement and relevant agencies regarding ongoing investigations.
- Managing open criminal case files and archiving closed cases.
- Tracking court deadlines and the status of active cases.
- Performing additional tasks as directed by attorneys, including drafting correspondence and preparing spreadsheets.
- Utilizing the federal ECF filing system for legal submissions.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of legal terminology and court procedures. Strong written communication skills are essential, as evidenced by a writing sample. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent verbal communication abilities, effective time management skills, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. The ability to manage large volumes of information and adapt to changing priorities is crucial. Previous litigation experience is required, along with proficiency in word processing and familiarity with Excel and Microsoft Word.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a related field or a Legal Assistant Certificate is preferred; however, a combination of relevant training and experience may be considered as a substitute for formal education.
