Job Overview

We are seeking candidates with experience in Property, Plant, and Equipment (PPE) or Fixed Asset management, preferably from the Utility or Oil & Gas sectors.

Position Summary: The Senior Asset Accounting Specialist will oversee the management and maintenance of the organization's fixed asset records, ensuring precise accounting and reporting of all asset transactions. This role is crucial for maximizing asset efficiency, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, and facilitating financial reporting and analysis.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Asset Oversight:
    • Maintain and update the fixed asset ledger, encompassing acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
    • Ensure all fixed assets are accurately documented and categorized in line with accounting policies and standards.
  2. Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and evaluate financial reports and schedules related to fixed assets for both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Reconcile the fixed asset sub-ledger with the general ledger and address any discrepancies.
  3. Depreciation Management:
    • Calculate and record depreciation and amortization expenses associated with fixed assets.
    • Monitor asset lifecycles and ensure appropriate accounting treatment for asset retirements and impairments.
  4. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS), and regulatory mandates.
    • Establish and uphold internal controls related to fixed asset accounting to protect assets from loss or misuse.
  5. Audit Support:
    • Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and clarifications related to fixed assets.
    • Prepare audit schedules and collaborate with auditors to streamline the audit process.
  6. Process Enhancement:
    • Identify opportunities to refine and enhance fixed asset accounting processes and procedures.
    • Implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy in asset management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in fixed asset accounting or a comparable role.
  • In-depth knowledge of fixed asset accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
