Job Overview

Position Summary:

The CNC Horizontal Milling Specialist II plays a crucial role in the production process, ensuring that products are machined to meet specific customer requirements. This position involves operating machining centers and performing medium to complex setups by selecting and installing appropriate tooling, updating fixtures, and executing CNC machining programs. The work schedule is for the second shift, from 3 PM to 11:30 PM, with potential for overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members, as assessed by peers.
  • Interpret and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and related technical documentation.
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and training to operators and junior machinists as necessary.
  • Conduct minor preventative maintenance when required.
  • Execute complex setups utilizing fixtures and tools.
  • Configure Tool Holders with cutting tools according to specified requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with machine controls and perform setups of medium complexity.
  • Understand Rotary and Indexing capabilities applicable to all Machine Centers.
  • Utilize machine controls to optimize feeds and speeds for enhanced efficiency.
  • Enhance processes to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Document and save updated programs, files, and images.
  • Record time for operations in accordance with work order sequence numbers.
  • Inspect parts to verify compliance with blueprint specifications using approved inspection methods.
  • Employ standard measurement instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and others to assess manufactured parts and assemblies.
  • Deburr work in progress.
  • Share expertise with colleagues and collaborate to troubleshoot manufacturing issues while performing quality assurance checks.
  • Achieve departmental goals and objectives within designated timelines.
  • Support the company’s Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including 5S implementation and maintenance.
  • Engage professionally with organizational team members and other departments.
  • Comply with ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 certification and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA regulations.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a production or job shop setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work order instructions.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T per ANSI Standards.
  • Strong understanding of setups and operations of Horizontal Machining Centers with Pallet Systems.
  • Familiarity with Mazak Machining Centers is advantageous.
  • Proficient in four and five-axis machining.
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions and working from hand-drawn sketches.
  • Knowledge of G-Code programming and machining practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Experience with Manufacturing Scheduling and Shop Control planning systems, such as Epicor, is a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Journeyman's card or completion of a four-year apprenticeship program.

Physical Demands:

  • Visual acuity for reading machine dials, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to hear machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes for appropriate action.
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, reaching overhead, and bending.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment:

  • High noise levels from operating machinery.
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine components.
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, and mist.
  • Skin contact with oils and cutting fluids.
