POSITION SUMMARY

The CNC Turning Specialist II is tasked with machining components to fulfill client specifications. This role involves operating turning centers and executing medium to complex setups by selecting and installing tooling, updating fixtures, and managing CNC Lathe machining programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient in machine controls and capable of performing medium complexity setups.
  • Load and operate parts according to manufacturing plans or product specifications.
  • Monitor tool wear and replace tools as necessary based on tool life assessments.
  • Conduct inspections using mechanical gauges (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pins, etc.).
  • Execute setups on production components (excluding CFA, FA, or SCR jobs).
  • Perform tool and offset adjustments during setup to ensure a successful internal first article submission to QA.
  • Utilize shop paper procedures, including updates, signatures, and stamps, as well as manage quantities, labeling, and non-conformance activities.
  • Read and comprehend all blueprint specifications.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of GD&T, understanding its relationship to prints, programs, and setups to achieve specified GD&T callouts.
  • Consistently meet job standard times and communicate with supervisors regarding job performance relative to standards.
  • Deburr work in progress.
  • Support the company's Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, as well as 5S implementation and maintenance.
  • Accurately clock in and out of operations according to work order sequence numbers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of four years of experience in a production or job shop setting.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing scheduling and shop control systems, such as Epicor, is advantageous.
  • Extensive knowledge of four and five-axis machining is essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Visual acuity for reading machine dials, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to hear machine sounds to identify and diagnose issues.
  • Frequent standing, walking, pushing, reaching overhead, and bending.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to high noise levels from machinery.
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine components.
  • Inhalation of fumes, dust, and mist.
  • Skin contact with oils and cutting fluids.

SAFETY COMPLIANCE

  • Adhere to all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company policies and accepted safety practices.
  • Knowledge of shop safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
