Job Summary

The University Librarian will be a visionary leader who fosters collaboration between faculty and staff to provide exceptional library services that support student success at SAU's campus in southern Michigan and online.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure library services align with curricular needs and provide students with necessary information resources.
  • Exhibit innovation and creativity in library holdings, structure, and management to meet the needs of 21st-century students.
  • Ensure the library's website and resources are complete and current.
  • Ensure access to library resources and services for the university community.
  • Coordinate delivery of library services to remote students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop and administer an effective online library environment.
  • Ensure the library's physical space is welcoming, comfortable, accessible, and effective.
  • Manage the library budget and spending.
  • Supervise library staff.
  • Work with faculty to promote the use of Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Maintain well-organized procedures for selection, acquisition, and cataloging of physical and online collections.
  • Manage the library's Integrated Library System.
  • Manage electronic resources, including databases, serials, and consortia.
  • Maintain and strengthen partnerships with consortia and other groups.
  • Provide leadership to information literacy activities and participate in information literacy curriculum design.
  • Oversee SAU's small institutional archives.
Qualifications

A master's degree in library science, library & information science, or related discipline is required. At least three years of experience working in an academic library and management experience is preferred. Experience with library services and/or teaching in online environments is helpful. Strong computer skills are required, and familiarity with Brightspace or other online learning management systems is helpful.

The successful candidate will be able to articulate how they would integrate the Christian faith into their responsibilities and will be someone who enjoys working with students and other faculty. The individual will exhibit a life and service that is in full accord with the Spring Arbor University Concept, Statement of Faith, and Community Covenant.

Experience working in multicultural academic environments is preferred, and individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply.
