Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Industrial and Related Technologies, the instructor will deliver both theoretical and practical training in electromechanical engineering technology and PLTW courses. Responsibilities include leadership, management, planning, and coordination of student instruction, enrollment, advisement, recruitment, retention, and marketing of the program. This role also encompasses curriculum development, assessment functions related to program and student learning outcomes, and transfer student advisement. The instructor must demonstrate expertise in the subject matter and hold valid teaching credentials as defined by SBTCE, college policies, and SACSCOC criteria.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Electromechanical Engineering, including electrical, electronics, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with automation related to equipment operation such as PLCs, sensors, motor drives, robots, industrial HMI, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Understanding of higher education principles and teaching methodologies.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with alumni, businesses, students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
Instructional Development:
- Creating and maintaining course documentation, selecting appropriate textbooks, and organizing class materials.
- Ensuring preparedness for classes and effective scheduling of lab time.
Teaching Performance:
- Providing students with course syllabi and adhering to grading policies.
- Delivering timely assessments and feedback aligned with course objectives.
Student Advisement:
- Maintaining office hours and advising records while being sensitive to student needs.
Community Engagement:
- Assisting with recruitment and job placement efforts.
- Participating in college and community committees.
Professional Development:
- Developing an annual professional development plan and attending relevant workshops.
- Engaging in research projects and presenting findings at conferences.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Math, Science, Physics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical Electronics or Mechanical Engineering or a master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline. Two years of college-level teaching experience is preferred. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) certification for IED, POE, CIM, and DE courses is also preferred.
Additional Comments:
Position may require overnight and local travel, teaching at service area high schools, and working evening hours and weekends.
