Position Overview:

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for utilizing accounting principles to evaluate financial data and generate comprehensive financial reports and reconciliations. This role encompasses accounting and reporting for all aspects related to inventory and the costing of commercial products, as well as development and pipeline projects. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, proactive, and possess exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and analytical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inventory analysis, including the creation of cost models, updates to standard costs, variance analysis, movement trends, and financial reporting.
  • Evaluate changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing processes, or services to assess their impact on costs.
  • Effectively communicate financial information and translate data into actionable insights that facilitate business decision-making.
  • Compile and analyze financial data to prepare month-end adjusting and closing entries, along with reconciliations and year-to-date roll-forwards of activities.
  • Manage the processing of corporate purchase orders and analyze vendor contracts and open purchasing activities.
  • Collaborate with various departments to review open purchase orders, ensuring accurate estimates for monthly, quarterly, and year-end accruals.
  • Maintain a controlled environment that adheres to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Engage with external auditors to ensure timely execution of audit activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiencies, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Work alongside other finance team members to support the overall objectives of the department.
  • Assist with special projects and research tasks as assigned by the management team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
  • Self-motivated with sound judgment, strong follow-up, and results-oriented approach.

Management Responsibilities:

No direct reports.

Work Environment:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. The position involves spending approximately 90% of work time seated and engaging with others or working at a desk and/or computer, with about 10% spent standing or walking within the work area. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing is essential. Occasionally, the role may require lifting or moving up to 10 pounds. The working conditions are typical of an office environment, with a moderate noise level.

Travel Requirements:

Ability to travel up to 10%.

Overnight travel may be required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of accounting experience; a Master's degree typically requires 6+ years of accounting experience, both with a minimum of 3 years in cost accounting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with NetSuite, particularly in inventory transactions, is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry is preferred.
Salary Information:

Salary range: $116,000 - $135,000
