Burns & McDonnell is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. As a key member of our project development team, you will be responsible for creating world-class designs for new installations and modifications on various natural gas, RNG (renewable natural gas), and hydrogen projects.
Key Responsibilities- Work with project teams to develop preliminary engineering packages, detailed designs, and construction of significant RNG assets for clients.
- Perform mechanical engineering to support design development of projects from conceptual phase through detailed design completion.
- Review and provide markups on design drawings, 3D models, and ISO drawings for various projects, including pipeline, M&R stations, and compressor stations.
- Engineer mechanical components, such as bills of materials for pipe, valve, and fittings, for project design and requirements.
- Apply strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering discipline.
- Review, analysis, and indexing of pipeline material features.
- Produce engineering calculations and reports, including preform hydraulics on pipelines based on material specifications and static head pressure to support hydrostatic pressure test designs.
- Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
- Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
- Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
- Create project specifications.
- Create datasheets for procurement packages.
- Create procurement packages request for quotes, perform bid evaluations, and recommend vendors.
- Perform simulations and analysis on preliminary engineering projects using software such as AFT products, Pipeline Technical Toolbox, and Aspen One program.
- Work closely with other disciplines, including Piping, Process, Electrical, I&C, Structural, and Civil.
- Attend meetings with clients as needed.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Field assignment and travel will be possible.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
- Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
- 7 years of mechanical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Ability to travel.
