Position Overview:

We are looking for a mature, capable, and engaging Overnight Emergency/ICU Technician with robust technical skills to join our diverse team. In addition to emergency and critical care, this role will support various specialty departments within our facility, including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, cardiology, radiology, and dentistry.

The Overnight Emergency Technician is responsible for the care and treatment of unstable or critically ill patients, triaging emergency cases, monitoring hospitalized animals, conducting patient tests, administering treatments, and providing nursing care.

The Overnight Emergency/ICU Technician must demonstrate proficiency in IV catheter placement, blood draws, laboratory procedures, anesthesia monitoring, and medication administration. As part of a collaborative team, the Emergency/ICU Technician will also manage patient admissions and discharges while ensuring an exceptional client experience through clear and compassionate communication.

There are opportunities to promote and market the practice's programs, products, and services through Continuing Education events and other marketing initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement;
  • In-house laboratory analysis and proper handling of samples;
  • Anesthesia monitoring and recognition of common abnormalities;
  • Fluid therapy administration and calculations;
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and proper administration;
  • Radiology safety and patient positioning;
  • Instrument cleaning and sterilization methods.

As a specialty hospital, advanced skills are essential for delivering the highest quality of patient care. The candidate may not possess all these skills at the time of hire, but training will be provided for the right individual.

  • Frequently exposed to radiation risks.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • Strong organizational skills and time management;
  • Ability to maintain composure in a busy and stressful environment;
  • Initiative and proactive problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of veterinary medical, surgical, laboratory, and imaging equipment;
  • Familiarity with sterilization techniques;
  • Understanding of federal and state animal health laws, including OSHA and DEA regulations;
  • Reliable on-site attendance.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Registered Veterinary Technician or active Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) on track for registration.
  • Two years of recent Technician experience in veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in handling, lifting, and restraining animals.
  • Knowledge of veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.

Preferred:
  • Two or more years of recent veterinary technician experience in Emergency and/or Critical Care.
  • Familiarity with Fear Free techniques.
  • Experience with Cornerstone and Instinct software.
