About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC). As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing consultation and support to our team, promoting a culture of recovery and empowerment for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Support: Provide outreach, engagement, and support to clients with mental health conditions, working collaboratively with our multi-disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Recovery-Oriented Approach: Utilize your personal experience with mental health to inform your work, promoting a recovery-based approach that empowers clients to reach their full potential.
  • Community Resource Navigation: Assist clients in accessing community resources and services, ensuring they receive the support they need to maintain stability and independence.
  • Crisis Intervention and Support: Participate in crisis intervention and safety management tasks, providing emotional support and guidance to clients in times of need.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Lived Experience: Have lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services (mental health and/or substance use treatment) or be the parent or legal guardian of a child who has received behavioral health services.
  • Certification: Ability to obtain Certified Peer Specialist certification from the Washington State Peer Counselor Training Program within 60 days of employment.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to work varied shifts and respond to changing client needs.
