As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals with mental health challenges, helping them to achieve their recovery goals and improve their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Peer Support: Offer one-on-one support and guidance to individuals with mental health challenges, helping them to develop coping strategies and improve their mental health outcomes.
- Facilitate Group Sessions: Lead group sessions to promote social connections, education, and skill-building among individuals with mental health challenges.
- Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Work closely with healthcare teams to ensure that individuals receive comprehensive care and support.
- Advocate for Clients: Advocate for clients' rights and interests, ensuring that their needs are met and their voices are heard.
- Develop and Implement Recovery Plans: Work with clients to develop and implement personalized recovery plans, setting goals and objectives to achieve optimal mental health outcomes.
- Provide Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals in crisis, helping them to manage their symptoms and develop coping strategies.
- Document Progress: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client progress, including treatment plans, progress notes, and outcome measures.
- Lived Experience: Have lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services (mental health and/or substance use treatment) or be the parent or legal guardian of a child who has received behavioral health services.
- Certification: Be able to obtain Certified Peer Specialist certification from the Washington State Peer Counselor Training Program within 60 days of employment.
- Communication Skills: Possess strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, healthcare teams, and other stakeholders.
- Flexibility: Be able to work flexible hours as required by program and staffing needs.
- Knowledge of Recovery-Focused Care: Have a strong understanding of recovery-focused care, including the principles of recovery, trauma-informed care, and person-centered care.
- Current Certification: Have current Certified Peer Specialist certification from the Washington State Peer Counselor Training Program.
- De-Escalation Skills: Possess knowledge of de-escalation skills, crisis intervention & stabilization, and harm reduction strategies.
- Bicultural Background: Have a bi-cultural background or experience working with diverse populations.
