About the Role:

The Director of Health Information Management is a key leadership position at Salem Health, responsible for overseeing the Health Information Management (HIM) department. This role requires a strong leader who can manage daily operations, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with laws, acts, and regulations governing HIM practices and activities.
  • Leadership and Management: Lead a team of HIM professionals, including HIM Operations, Coding, and CDI departments.
  • Strategic Planning: Establish, coordinate, and communicate departmental objectives and goals, aligning with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Project Management: Oversee HIM-related projects, including upgrades and replacements of existing software and hardware.
  • Vendor Management: Manage vendors, including onsite ROI services, offsite paper records storage, transcription services, and coding/CDI software.
  • Financial Management: Identify and secure resources to support initiatives while managing department costs in a fiscally responsible manner.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's Degree in HIM, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within HIM, including a depth of subject matter expertise.
  • Certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential preferred.
