Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine Specialist

The Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine Specialist plays a vital role within the Hospice and Palliative Care program, delivering comprehensive care through both inpatient and outpatient services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate care to patients in the hospice and palliative care unit.
- Participate in the Hospice Oncall program.
- Offer consultative services for both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Utilize telemedicine for consultative services.
- Supervise and mentor H&PC fellows.
- Ensure compliance with the National VA Hospice and Palliative Care Program.
- Represent the VA Maine Palliative Care Program effectively.
- Deliver clinical assistance and consultation.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Possess a medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Hold a full and unrestricted medical license.
- Complete residency training in a core specialty program.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English.
- Be board eligible or board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with VA Regulations, particularly VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
