Position Overview:

The Palliative Care and Hospice Medicine Specialist plays a vital role within the Hospice and Palliative Care program, delivering comprehensive care through both inpatient and outpatient services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide compassionate care to patients in the hospice and palliative care unit.
  • Participate in the Hospice Oncall program.
  • Offer consultative services for both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Utilize telemedicine for consultative services.
  • Supervise and mentor H&PC fellows.
  • Ensure compliance with the National VA Hospice and Palliative Care Program.
  • Represent the VA Maine Palliative Care Program effectively.
  • Deliver clinical assistance and consultation.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Possess a medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Hold a full and unrestricted medical license.
  • Complete residency training in a core specialty program.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • Be board eligible or board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with VA Regulations, particularly VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
