Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Engineer Software / Sr Principal Engineer Software - Test Engineer Software Development – This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, debugging, and validating software on test equipment for lab and flight preparation activities.
  • Providing software support and updates on test hardware as requirements and needs change.
  • Leading the full life cycle of software development used for system testing.
  • Defining software requirements and converting them into verification requirements.
  • Validating software through acceptance testing against requirements.
  • Developing test plans and procedures using test equipment.
  • Collaborating with systems engineers, test engineers, and other stakeholders involved in the testing process.
  • Continually updating and validating software as requirements and/or scope changes to accommodate changes in system testing.
  • Applying technical expertise in solving integration challenges.
  • Participating in internal test planning related to software needs.
  • Engaging in hardware emulation and user interface development.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.


Job Qualifications:

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

Principal Engineer Software: 05 Years with Bachelors in relevant field of study; 03 Years with Masters; 00 Years with PhD or 04 additional years in lieu of a degree.

Sr Principal Engineer Software:

09 Years with Bachelors in relevant field of study; 07 Years with Masters; 04 Years with PhD or 04 additional years in lieu of a degree.

Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 6 years. U.S. Citizen and Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP). Experience coding in Java, C++, or Python. Understanding of software engineering principles, practices, and theories.

Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems and software problem tracking tools such as DOORs, Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket.


Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

Bachelors in computer science, software engineering, another STEM degree or equivalent. Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward). Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management. Ability to brief technical presentations to stakeholders. Agile Systems Engineering Experience. Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills. Experience with Confluence and JIRA.

Python / Java / JavaScript / C / C++ / Labview programming experience and familiarity. Experience with scripting languages (developing, debugging and maintaining).

Experience writing device drivers. Experience coding emulators/simulators. Availability to support occasional travel.
Salary Range:

$92,600 - $139,000
Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
