Cardiac Rhythm Observer

Under direct supervision, the Cardiac Rhythm Observer performs arrhythmia or ECG monitor observations on assigned shifts and communicates changes to the nursing staff. This role requires attention to detail and effective communication skills to ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient cardiac rhythms.
Key Responsibilities:
Obtain, compile, and maintain accurate records for the nursing unit assigned. Monitor patients' cardiac rhythms and run rhythm stripes at designated intervals. Initiate code blues as necessary. Interpret rhythms and validate computer readouts. Verify lead placement on patients and compare posted strips to previous strips, notifying nursing staff of any changes. Recognize and respond to unusual or abnormal patient conditions.
Equipment and Instruments:
Clean and maintain equipment after each patient use, including cardiac monitors, telemetry transmitters, central monitor banks, and arrhythmia analysis/printers. Test equipment for proper working order and report any issues to the supervisor. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements:
Formal EKG or arrhythmia class with a minimum of 20 hours. Successful completion of arrhythmia updates within the last two years if basic arrhythmia class taken over two years ago. Successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente basic arrhythmia assessment test with a score of 80% or better. Adequate hearing either alone or with a hearing device. Previous monitor observer experience preferred. Ability to organize and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work as a team member.
Additional Requirements:
This is an on-call position with varying days and hours. Must provide 10 available shifts per month with 4 weekend availability.
