Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lathe Operator will engage in a range of precision machining tasks, including turning, boring, drilling, and threading, while adhering to strict tolerances across various components from multiple sectors. The ideal candidate should possess proficiency with Fanuc Controls and be adept at interpreting technical drawings and work instructions to ensure compliance with quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending.
  • Capability to spend a minimum of 8 hours per day in a shop environment, alternating between standing and sitting.
  • Familiarity with operating large propane and acetylene torches.
  • Experience with small lifts, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment (training will be provided).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail, patience, and a willingness to learn.
  • Fundamental computer and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding Blueprints and G-Code.
  • Knowledge of basic machining techniques related to turning, milling, drilling, and threading operations.
  • Competence in interpreting drawings and following instructions to produce quality parts.
  • Ability to maintain tolerances as specified by technical documents or industry standards.
  • Skilled in the use, care, and calibration of measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators).
  • Possession of essential tools required for the role of a manual machinist.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Responsibility for understanding and following safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Monitoring machinery during operations to adjust feeds, maintain temperatures, and identify potential issues.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Associate's Degree in Machine Trade preferred but not mandatory.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Fundamental understanding of machining practices.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is full-time and may require evening and weekend shifts based on operational needs. A probationary period of 60 days will be in place, during which performance and compliance with safety directives will be evaluated. Compensation will be hourly, with bi-weekly pay cycles.

Proficiency in English is required for effective communication with supervisors and adherence to safety directives. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, physical evaluation, and background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs and perform various physical activities.
  • Manual dexterity for assembly and tool operation.
  • No allergies or issues related to handling metals such as aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The work area is generally clean and safe, though moderate noise and metal particles may be present during machining operations.
