Position Overview:

The CNC Machinist demonstrates advanced knowledge of the entire machining process, including intricate troubleshooting and process enhancement. Responsibilities include setting up and operating various machine tools to create precision components and instruments. This role may also involve fabricating, modifying, or repairing mechanical instruments and machine tools, utilizing expertise in mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interprets setup sheets, specifications, and drawings to establish setup procedures, machining sequences, and dimensions of finished products.
  • Secures fixtures to machines and positions workpieces according to setup instructions.
  • Selects and installs appropriate cutting tools.
  • Loads programs into the machine control unit or inputs commands to retrieve machine instructions from the database.
  • Operates controls and inputs commands to index cutting tools to specified set points and initiate machine operations.
  • Monitors machine operations to identify malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Replaces cutting tools and adjusts workpiece locations during the machining process as per instructions.
  • Measures and inspects initial workpieces for compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Machines high-tolerance components to drawing specifications primarily using lathes and milling machines.
  • Fabricates specialized parts.
  • Suggests process improvements.
  • Conducts operations safely.
  • Maintains machinery.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and policies.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Actively participates in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of 2 years in a Machine Shop Environment preferred.

· At least 2 years of experience in the Mechanical Field.

· Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. / 23 kilograms.

· Typical work is conducted in a manufacturing environment or at customer sites.

· Required to stand for extended periods and may involve significant manual labor.

· Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.

· Exposure to loud noise levels.

· Ability to wear personal protective equipment.

· Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) is advantageous.

· Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus.
