Position Overview: The CNC Machinist is expected to possess advanced knowledge of machining processes, including complex troubleshooting and optimization techniques. Responsibilities include setting up and operating various machine tools to produce high-precision components and instruments. This role may also involve fabricating and modifying parts for machine tools or maintaining industrial machinery, utilizing expertise in mechanics, mathematics, material properties, and machining protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret setup sheets, specifications, and drawings to establish setup procedures and machining sequences.
- Secure workpieces in fixtures according to detailed setup instructions.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools for operations.
- Load programs into the machine control unit or input commands to access machine instructions.
- Adjust controls and input commands to position cutting tools accurately and initiate machine operations.
- Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions, such as worn or damaged tools.
- Replace cutting tools and reposition workpieces as necessary during machining.
- Measure and inspect initial workpieces to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Manufacture high-tolerance components according to technical drawings using primarily lathe and milling machines.
- Fabricate specialized parts as required.
- Propose enhancements to improve processes.
- Conduct all operations in a safe manner, adhering to safety protocols.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines.
- Follow all safety regulations and policies.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- Actively participate in identifying and pursuing Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a machine shop environment preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a mechanical field.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. / 22.7 kilograms.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment or at customer sites.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and may involve heavy manual labor.
- Physical capabilities include standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items.
- Exposure to loud noise levels is expected.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Familiarity with Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies is advantageous.
- Prior experience with Lean/Six Sigma practices is a plus.
