Position Overview:

The CNC Machinist demonstrates advanced knowledge of the entire machining process, including complex troubleshooting and process enhancement. This role involves setting up and operating various machine tools to manufacture precision components and instruments. This includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. The position may also involve fabricating and modifying parts to create or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machinery, utilizing knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interprets setup sheets, specifications, and drawings to ascertain setup procedures, machining sequences, and dimensions of finished components.
  • Attaches fixtures to machines and positions and secures workpieces in fixtures according to setup instructions.
  • Selects and installs appropriate cutting tools.
  • Loads programs into the machine control unit or inputs commands to retrieve machine instructions from the database.
  • Manipulates controls and inputs commands to index cutting tools to specified set points and initiates machine operation.
  • Monitors machine operation to identify malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Replaces cutting tools and adjusts workpiece locations during the machining process as specified in instructions.
  • Measures and inspects initial workpieces for compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Machines high-tolerance components to drawing specifications primarily using lathes and milling machines.
  • Fabricates specialty components.
  • Proposes enhancements to processes.
  • Conducts operations safely.
  • Maintains machinery.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and policies.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Actively participates in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of 2 years in a Machine Shop Environment preferred.

· At least 2 years of experience in the Mechanical Field.

· Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. / 23 kilograms.

· Typical work occurs in a manufacturing environment or at customer sites.

· Required to stand for extended periods and may involve significant manual labor.

· Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.

· Exposure to high noise levels.

· Ability to wear personal protective equipment.

· Familiarity with and prior experience in implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) is advantageous.

· Previous Lean/Six Sigma experience is a plus.
