Position Title: Advanced Fiber Optics Specialist

Location: Chesapeake, VA

Role Summary: This position demands a comprehensive understanding of photonics principles and fiber optic systems, specifically for maritime installations. Candidates should have hands-on experience with all necessary tools for fiber optic deployment and connectorization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret and execute tasks from technical documents, including blueprints and manuals.
  • Identify, install, and remove fiber optic interconnection box (FOICB) components using basic hand tools, and prepare entry points for tube routing boxes (TRBs).
  • Conduct troubleshooting, repairs, and testing of Navy ship or shore fiber optic systems, adhering to NAVSEA specifications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in building fiber optic connectors, including STs, SCs, and LCs, on both conventional and blown optical fiber.
  • Exhibit foundational skills in shipboard fiber optic fusion splicing.
  • Support M28876 connector building for four and eight channel systems.
  • Prepare for blown optical fiber (BOF) installation and assist in the process.
  • Perform testing of fiber optic cables and connectors using standard instruments such as VFLs, DB loss meters, and OTDRs.
  • Receive and implement technical guidance from supervisors or senior technicians, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Work independently while mentoring entry-level technicians.
  • Collaborate with cable installation teams to meet standard installation criteria.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by management to support organizational objectives.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Availability for overtime, including weekends, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of the NAVSEA Fiberoptic Core Module and other relevant NAVSEA training modules.
  • Possession of a valid OSHA 10 Maritime Card.
  • A minimum of two years in an electronic/electrical apprenticeship or four years of relevant experience in shipboard installations.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent may be required based on contract specifications.
  • Valid State Driver's License is mandatory.
Additional Skills:
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA drawings and ability to navigate shipboard environments.
  • Understanding of company safety and quality assurance practices.
Security Clearance:

May require clearance up to secret level.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to access various shipboard locations, including restricted areas.
  • Capability to lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work may involve physical activities such as climbing and walking, and exposure to outdoor conditions.
