Position Overview:

Playbook is on the lookout for a seasoned Engineering Manager to spearhead our engineering divisions in crafting innovative tools and technologies, while empowering the upcoming wave of creators. You will take charge of designing, executing, and enhancing infrastructure across our diverse services and applications, overseeing the current team of backend engineers, and expanding the team through both internal development and external recruitment.

The ideal candidate possesses a wealth of experience in cultivating high-performing teams and fostering a premier engineering culture, along with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and a proactive approach to challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide our engineering teams to foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Offer technical leadership to develop, enhance, and scale our marketplace technology, empowering the next generation of fitness, health, and wellness professionals.
  • Facilitate alignment across product, engineering, design, and business sectors.
  • Assist in identifying and translating business opportunities into product strategies while defining the technical vision for your team and the organization.
  • Inspire, recruit, and mentor multiple teams of high-performing engineers in a remote setting.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to nurture and expand a team of engineers focused on Playbook's core infrastructure.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our users, user metrics, and feature performance.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and CTO to cultivate a scalable engineering culture that attracts top talent.
  • Contribute to the development and achievement of OKRs/KPIs.
  • Lead communications with stakeholders regarding team performance, vision, and competitive positioning.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of managerial experience, including relevant startup exposure, ideally at the Seed or Series A stage.
  • A robust engineering background, with 5+ years in individual contributor engineering roles.
  • Experience managing the architecture of a large-scale platform in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Familiarity with video streaming architecture is preferred.
  • A proven history of managing highly-technical, remote engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success in building top talent and high-performance teams, overseeing multiple teams and engineering leads.
  • Strong prioritization, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, with a high level of English fluency.
