Research Scientist in Human-Centric Robotics and Perception

Role OverviewOur Human-Aware Interaction and Learning team is seeking talented Research Scientists specializing in robotic perception and computer vision. This role is integral to our efforts in exploring the dynamics of human-robot interaction, particularly in the context of mobility.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct pioneering research in perception for robotic systems, addressing significant practical challenges and validating findings through real-world benchmarks.
- Implement cutting-edge perception algorithms to operate in real-time within high-performance systems, encompassing planning and control.
- Advance the field of Human-Machine Interaction and Shared Control in both robotics and driving scenarios.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers and engineers across TRI, Toyota, and academic institutions.
- Stay informed on the latest developments in computer vision and robotic perception.
- Present research outcomes through verbal and written communications at prestigious international venues and contribute to open-source projects.
- Lead partnerships with external research collaborators and mentor interns in research initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering).
- A Ph.D. or substantial expertise in a relevant area such as Computer Vision or Robotics.
- Proficiency in scientific programming with Python, Unix, and robotic frameworks (e.g., ROS2.0), along with familiarity with deep learning frameworks (preferably PyTorch).
- Hands-on experience in practical computer vision applications, including geometric techniques like camera calibration and key point extraction.
- A proven track record of publishing in high-impact conferences and journals related to computer vision and perception.
- The ability to identify, propose, and lead innovative research projects collaboratively.
- A passion for developing human-centric artificial intelligence that benefits society.
