The Clinical Dietitian plays a crucial role in managing the nutritional needs of patients across various settings, whether inpatient or outpatient. This role ensures that patients receive optimal nutrition tailored to their medical, cultural, and age-specific requirements. The Dietitian will assess patients for nutritional risks and develop appropriate nutrition care plans that promote healthy dietary choices throughout their health journey.

Key Responsibilities:
- 1. Delivering Medical Nutrition Therapy: Provide culturally and age-appropriate nutrition therapy to assigned patients, utilizing evidence-based guidelines and the Nutrition Care Process.
- 1.1 Conduct thorough nutrition assessments that accurately identify patients' nutritional risk factors, taking into account their medical and psychiatric conditions. Design tailored diets based on physician orders and adapt them to meet individual needs while considering the client's educational background.
- 2. Organizational Excellence: Exhibit strong organizational skills to ensure the efficient delivery of clinical nutrition services in assigned care areas.
- 2.1 Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation, including medical records and productivity data, in compliance with HIPAA regulations and departmental standards.
- 3. Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.
- 3.1 Maintain registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and state certification as required.
- 4. Education and Mentorship: Facilitate the education of dietetic interns during their rotations.
- 4.1 Supervise daily internship activities, identifying learning obstacles and implementing effective teaching strategies.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with completion of an approved dietetics program is required. A post-baccalaureate certificate or dietetic internship is also necessary.
Experience: A minimum of one year of practical experience in clinical dietetics is required, with preference given to candidates with experience in acute or outpatient care settings.
Licensure: Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory, or eligibility for registration within six months of hire. State certification as a dietitian-nutritionist is also required.
Special Skills: A strong understanding of evidence-based medical nutrition therapy principles is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct competent nutrition assessments and provide education to individuals and groups. Proficiency in computer software systems, including word processing and electronic medical records, is necessary.
Physical Demands: The role requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and to walk significant distances within various care settings.
