Job Summary

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Colas, you will be responsible for diagnosing and performing major and minor repairs to a variety of fleet equipment, including front-end loaders, excavators, drag lines, and more. You will work in a fast-paced environment, using your technical skills and knowledge to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Adopt and promote the Company's safety culture, actively supporting all safety initiatives
  • Support and practice the Company's core values, vision, and mission, following the code of ethics and workplace conduct
  • Use diagnostic equipment and tools to identify faults or malfunctions and determine required repairs
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts, ensuring proper operation and compliance with manufacturers' specifications
  • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects and ensure proper performance
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper operation of equipment
  • Install new ignition systems, change/charge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, making adjustments as needed
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Technical school in a related field a plus
  • 3 or more years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred
  • Proven experience with Cat, Komatsu, and Volvo equipment and diagnostic software
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to operate a mobile device and related applications
Physical Requirements
  • Able to lift or move up to 100 pounds
  • Able to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Able to work in high and sometimes confined spaces
  • Able to work in wet and/or dry conditions and extreme heat and cold
