Position Overview:

UPMC McKeesport is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Resource department. This role offers the unique opportunity to work across various departments within the hospital, providing a dynamic work environment each day.

Employment Type:

This is a Regular Casual position, requiring 36 hours over a 6-week period, including weekends and one holiday annually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The LPN will operate as an integral member of the healthcare team, utilizing sound nursing judgment grounded in education, experience, and nursing competency.
  • Engagement in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care through focused evaluations in diverse clinical settings.
  • Seek guidance and supervision when implementing new or unfamiliar nursing techniques, adhering to established policies and UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines.
  • Function within the LPN Practice guidelines, including IV administration as trained and clinically appropriate, fostering a healing environment.
  • Develop daily objectives and care plans that involve patients as partners, addressing their holistic needs.
  • Effectively communicate patient conditions to other healthcare providers, ensuring comprehensive documentation that enhances caregiver collaboration.
  • Incorporate national professional standards alongside organizational goals to elevate patient safety, quality, and satisfaction in daily operations.
  • Foster a compassionate patient experience by building supportive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues, while actively participating in unit initiatives.
  • Deliver thorough education to patients and families, guiding them through their care journey and transitions, while nurturing the development of new LPNs and support staff.
  • Engage in continuous learning and improvement initiatives within clinical areas, identifying opportunities for enhancing patient care and workplace efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team and patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment.
  • Recognize and respect cultural differences, promoting healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Maintain a healthy work-life balance, modeling effective time management and lifestyle choices, while communicating any safety concerns identified in the workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Practical Nursing Program accredited by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Successful completion of IV therapy curriculum is required for those performing IV therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and interact effectively with patients across the lifespan.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements in patient care, collaborating with the healthcare team and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Capability to thrive in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Physical stamina for frequent mobility, lifting, and patient positioning.
  • Proficient computer skills for utilizing electronic health records.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as an LPN or a multistate license as per the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Compliance with Act 34 requirements.
